If you're easily spooked out then this is not for you. If the very mention of 'scary' and haunting' sends chills down your spine then you may not have the stomach to make it to the end of this article. Here's a list of some of the scariest and most terrifying places to be.

1. Aokigahara Forest (Japan):

Aokigahara, a forest situated at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan, is the resting place of more than 500 people. These people were not victim of any calamity but orchestrated their own deaths through suicide by hanging themselves from the boughs of the Aokigahara greenery. The forest is known to be so thick that even at peak sunshine hours, the place is blanketed with darkness. A popular author Seicho Matsumoto published a novel called Kuroi Kaiju where two of his characters commit suicide there which sparked the trend of self-inflicted deaths.
The place is scattered with decomposed bodies and readily available nooses from previous suicides. There are even signboards displaying encouraging messaged such as, "Think of Your Family" and "Life is a precious thing! Please reconsider!"

2. Borley Rectory (Sadbury, UK):

A love story gone awry, Borley Rectory is known to house the ghosts of a nun and monk who commit the forbidden act of falling in love. The so-called nun tried to elope with the monk and were both quickly tracked down. The monk faced his demise at the hands of the outraged and the nun was bricked up in the cellars of the monastery. It has gained the reputation of being 'The Most Haunted House in England'.

3. Winchester Mystery House (California, USA):

This intimidating structure sprawls over a 160-room complex built as a death trap with secret passages, dead ends, long hallways, doors opening to walls and staircases leading to ceilings. Sarah Winchester, a widow, was told by a medium that her house was haunted by the ghosts of it's ancestors and if she didn't continue building she would die. This scary prediction and her grief over the death of her husband and daughter drove her to create this madhouse. The place was like a pyramid designed to have ghosts lose their way within it's walls. However, the likelihood that some poor human would lose their way and starve within the confines of this house, not being able to find their way out, was higher. Indeed, making it a terrifying place to visit.

4. Stull Cemetery (Kansas, USA):

Stull is a tiny town in Kansas that houses a cemetery reputed for being one of the 7 gateways to hell. The Devil himself is known to hold courts of his worshippers here. Rumour has it that Pope John Paul II refused to fly over this unholy location on his way to Colorado.
This cemetery received it's infamous reputation when a farmer finished burning his crop on the land only to find the charred body of his son in the remains. Another occurance was when a man went missing and was later found hanging from a tree there.

5. Prypiat (Ukraine):

Prypiat, in Ukraine, popularly known as the Chernobyl disaster site is one of the scariest known locations to man. Prypiat became a ghost town almost overnight when the 50,000 residents, that is the families of the Chernobyl employees, were evacuated due to a malfunction in the Chernobyl Reactor.
This radioactive nest gives you the creeps immediately with it's eerie abandoned look.
The place is dead save the strewn belongings of previous inhabitants and a big ferris wheel that nobody uses giving you the sense that something is lurking within the shadows. While the city is open to people, by an announcement from the governement that the radioactive levels have gone down (because a little radioactivity is okay!), it's not top on the list of places to travel to.

6. Byberry Mental Asylum (Philadelphia, USA):

Burberry used to hous the Philadelphia State Hospital which was notoriously famous for it's ill-treatment of patients. It housed over 7,000 patients, from the mentally challenged to the criminally insane. It was shut down due to their barbaric treatment of patients. The scary thing about the place is the terror wrecked there during the time that the asylum was being run. The place was running over-capacity so patients slept in hallways lined with excretion they were constantly abused and exploited by the staff. There was an incident where a staff member killed and dismembered a female patient, leaving her body parts strewn across the property. The killer, Charles gable was never found but the place because a hot spot for Satan worshippers, vandals, arsonists and all kinds of miscreants.

7. Leap Castle (Ireland):

The Castle belonged to the O'Carrolls's and when the last of them died, two brothers went to war over control of the castle resulting the the murder of one by the other in front of the family. This gave the name Bloody Chapel to the place for reasons most obvious. Rumour has it., that there is a hunched beast , that stalks the halls of this place, called Elemental. The appearance of this creature of proceeded by the smell of rotting flesh and sulphur.
There is also a dungeon filled with spikes where people who were thrown in and forgotten about were impaled to death. There were also more than 2 dozen human remains found in these dungeons and the ghosts of all the victims are said to haunt the place till date.

Simple Self Defence Moves

What would you do if you were attacked? It’s a horrible and scary thought, but it could happen.

Read this and stay safe!

The freeze stance:

Memorize the following three steps and do not hesitate to use them if you feel threatened!

1) Stand tall- If someone approaches you in a menacing way, stand tall and strong with your feet shoulder-width apart, one foot (it doesn’t matter which) out slightly in front of the other.
2) Stop sign- Hold your arms straight out in front of you, touching your thumbs together and spreading the rest of your fingers, so you’ll firmly send the signal “Stop!” to your potential assailant.
3) Speak up- Follow your strong stance by using a command that will let him know you’re serious, like “! Leave me alone!” Then say something to reduce the tension like “I don’t want any problems.”

Tip: Confidence can deter a potential attacker, so walk at a steady pace and act like you know where you’re going.
Why it works: The freeze stance is your first line of defense. It defuses the situation before it escalates into an attack. Plus it shows that you’re bold enough to take control of the situation and confident enough to fight if you have to. The freeze stance combines verbal and non-verbal signals (the arms held out straight the command) that show you’re not afraid to face your attacker. He sees your strength, and no one wants a strong victim.

The side kick:

If you’re ever attacked, chances are you’ll be knocked to the ground in the struggle. It’s easy to be scared and think that once you’re down, you’re helpless. But that’s not true! Your lower body is the strongest part of you so practice this until it’s second nature.

1) Gear up- Roll onto your side, hold your torso up with one arm, bend the bottom leg till your foot’s near your bottom. Put the other leg in the air, knee bent, thigh perpendicular to your body. Remember, don’t just practice with only leg-you might end up having to use the other one.
2) Kick- Aim for sensitive areas such as the face or groin. Stay focused on your target and kick your top leg hard while twisting your torso towards the ground. Your arms should be planted and your belly button facing the ground to give more power. If your attacker grabs your kicking leg, flip over and kick him with your other foot.
3) Reload- Quickly get back into position so you’re ready to kick again if you need to. Once he’s on the ground, get up and run.

Tip: Your voice is a powerful weapon. Shout a specific instruction like “Call the police!” as loud as you can.

The elbow strike:

Being attacked from behind is especially scary because it takes you by surprise. However there is a move you can use to defend yourself against an attacker who sneaks up on you-the elbow strike. If done correctly, this blow can throw your attacker off-balance and even break his nose.

1) Grab- As soon as you’re attacked from behind, quickly take note of which side of you the assailant’s head is on. Then, with your opposite hand, grab his forearm, which will probably be wrapped around your waist. This way, he won’t be able to pull away and your strike will be more powerful. The arm closer to his face is the one you’ll use to strike.
2) Strike-Twist at the waist while bringing your other arm back, elbow bent, to hit your attacker in the face. Thrust your elbow upward so it hits him from the bottom of the nose up, at an angle. While turning, try to look him straight in the face do you’re more likely to hit your target.

Beautiful Seashell Temple in Bangkok

Beautiful Seashell Temple "Temple of the Dawn" in Bangkok. The seashells and bits of porcelain used to make the mosaic designs had previously been used as ballast by boats coming to Bangkok from China. The full name of the temple is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahavihara.

The moon is quite a bit younger than scientists had previously believed, new research suggests.
The leading theory of how the moon formed holds that it was created when a mysterious planet — one the size of Mars or larger — slammed into Earth about 4.56 billion years ago, just after the solar system came together. But new analyses of lunar rocks suggest that the moon, which likely coalesced from the debris blasted into space by this monster impact, is actually between 4.4 billion and 4.45 billion years old.
The finding, which would make the moon 100 million years younger than previously thought, could reshape scientists' understanding of the early Earth as well as its natural satellite, researchers said. [The Moon: 10 Surprising Lunar Facts]

"There are several important implications of this late moon formation that have not yet been worked out," Richard Carlson, of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C., said in a statement.
"For example, if the Earth was already differentiated prior to the giant impact, would the impact have blown off the primordial atmosphere that formed from this earlier epoch of Earth history?" added Carlson, who is presenting the new results Monday (Sept. 23) in London at a meeting organized by the Royal Society called "Origin of the Moon."
Scientists know the solar system's age (4.568 billion years) quite well. And they can pin down the formation times of relatively small bodies such as asteroids precisely, too, by noting when these objects underwent extensive melting — a consequence, in part, of the heat generated by the collision and fusion of these objects' building-block "planetesimals."
For example, analysis of meteorites that came from the asteroid Vesta and eventually rained down on Earth reveals that the 330-mile-wide (530 kilometers) space rock is 4.565 billion years old. Vesta cooled relatively quickly and is too small to have retained enough internal heat to drive further melting or volcanism, Carlson explained.
But it's tougher to nail down the age of larger solar-system bodies, he said.
"Ask the same question of the Earth or moon, and you don't get a very precise answer," Carlson said. "Earth likely took longer to grow to full size compared to a small asteroid like Vesta, and every step in its growth tends to erase, or at least cloud, the memory of earlier events."

Scientists keep getting better and better estimates, however, as they refine their techniques and technology improves. And those estimates are pushing the moon's formation date farther forward in time.
The moon is thought to have harbored a global ocean of molten rock shortly after its dramatic formation. Currently, the most precisely determined age for the lunar rocks that arose from that ocean is 4.360 billion years, the researchers said.
And here on Earth, scientists have found signs in several locations of a major melting event that occurred around 4.45 billion years ago. So, evidence is building that the catastrophic collision that formed the moon and reshaped Earth occurred around that time, rather than 100 million years or so before, the researchers said.

The AquaDom in Berlin, Germany, is a 25 metre tall cylindrical acrylic glass aquarium with built-in transparent elevator. It is located at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin-Mitte.The DomAquarée complex also contains a hotel, offices, a restaurant, and the aquarium Sea Life Centre.

Overview : 

The AquaDom was opened in 2004.It cost about 12.8 million euros.The overall construction of the aquarium was designed and built by International Concept Management, Inc.. The acrylic cylinder was constructed by the U.S. company Reynolds Polymer Technology. It is now the main attraction of the Berlin Sea Life Centre.

The outside cylinder was manufactured on-site from four pieces; the inside cylinder for the elevator was delivered in one piece.The Aquadom is the largest acrylic cylindrical aquarium in the world, with a diameter of about 11 metres, and it is built on a 9 metre tall foundation.Filled with 1,000,000 litres of water, it contains over 1,500 fish of 50 species. The feeding of the fish and the cleaning of the fish tank is performed daily by 3-4 divers.The fish need 8 kg of fish food.
