You'll Never Lose Your Cellphone or Keys Again

 

We know you've had to call your cellphone more than a few times to try to remember where you left it. And the car keys? They're never where they're supposed to be.

 

StickNFind solves that problem for you. Stick these tiny Bluetooth-enabled, coin-sized discs directly onto an object and then track them through an app. The app basically turns your smartphone into a radar screen so you can track the location of the sticker. In fact, for the really forgetful, you can track up to 20 stickers at one time. The app will be available for both iOS and Android.

 

Jimmy Buchheim, founder of StickNFind, gave us a demo at Mashable headquarters in New York, before heading out to International CES 2013 where they will be showing the device.

 

Using the app, I was able to see a box with the disc attached literally move across the phone screen. Of course, the tracking is limited to Bluetooth range -- but Buchheim says that, with the newer phones and Bluetooth 4.0, that range will be 100 feet.

 

I can see this being incredibly useful for electronic devices, gadgets and, some people might say, kids too. That moment of panic in a crowded store when you realize your child is no longer standing next to you might be made easier by knowing you can bring up their location, if close enough, on your phone screen.

 

The app also includes a "virtual leash," meaning it will alert you when the disc goes out of range. You can activate a low beep or have the LED ring on the outside of the disc glow red to help you locate it.

 

This makes it incredibly useful for finding lost pets hiding in a dark space like a garage or a barn. The nice thing about this is, unlike trackers designed for pets, there's no monthly fee associated with it.

 

The company tells us they're working with a museum to incorporate the discs into guided tours, as well as developing a special version for the blind that will speak the location to you.

 

StickNFind runs on watch batteries and will cost about $25 each, though they'll be sold in packages of two and four. You can order your now; it's available on Indiegogo and the company expects to ship product in March. They've already raised over $500,000 -- far above their original goal of $70,000.
